....Shabana Rehman is very, very funny, a gifted physical performer, and in Halifax till Saturday for the Atlantic Fringe Festival.
Rehman’s 70-minute show, Kingdom and Fatherland: Homeland Insecurity, is at times uproariously funny and at others tragic, poignant and thought-provoking. At all moments it’s a worthwhile experience.
She appears onstage in a burka that she quickly sheds to reveal black and white striped peep toe shoes with fuchsia trim, rhinestone-studded false eyelashes, a smile that can light up any room and a winning charm.
Rehman’s a thoroughly modern woman not afraid to be herself or say what she thinks; it’s hard not to admire her courage and determination to live her life the way she wants to, no matter the boundaries of cultural convention......()
And the accounts of the immigrant experience, both in Norway and in the U.S., showcase a wider immigrant experience.
()....The show is what audiences hope to find at the Fringe — entertaining, thought-provoking and memorable.

Tickets are $10 for the show, which runs at The Bus Stop Theatre, Wednesday at 5 p.m., Thursday at 9:30 p.m., Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday at 11 p.m.
